ew four-cylinder also joins the lineup
BMW has unveiled the new 520d EfficientDynamics Edition (EDE).
Designed for eco-minded drivers, the EDE has a 2.0-liter diesel engine with 184 PS (135 kW / 181 hp) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque. This enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 231 km/h (144 mph). More importantly, thanks to several enhancements - an engine start/stop system, regenerative brakes, an active grille, a longer final drive ratio and aerodynamic wheels - the model has an average fuel consumption of 4.5 L/100 km (62.8 mpg imp / 52.3 mpg US) and CO2 emissions of 119 g/km.
In related news, BMW announced the 2012 5-Series will offer a new 2.0-liter petrol engine with TwinPower Turbo technology. The 520i has 184 PS (135 kW / 181 hp) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque, which enables the sedan to run from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 227 km/h (141 mph). Likewise, the 528i boasts 245 PS (180 kW / 241 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. It allows the car to dash from 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and top out at 250 km/h (155 mph).
